The regeneration didn’t do fuck all for us locals, it brought in new business, but if you look at the Westfield shopping centre they built, it’s full of shops that people like us, who grew up there, could never afford to shop in. JK: For me it was about pointing out the lie that we’d been sold. The talk of local people, and especially the young, benefiting from the Olympics through the ‘regeneration’ of the area obviously inspired the song’s lyrics – what did you want to get across in the song? For too long we’ve not had anything to shout about, well apart from West Ham. Knowing that London - and in particular East London - was gonna be the showpiece of a big event, I knew that the area would change and I hoped for the better. LG: When I first heard about the Olympics coming I was pretty pleased. I’m a huge fan of the games - you get to see a lot of sports other than the usual Football, Rugby, Cricket and Tennis that is always on TV, so I thought the idea of it being in my home town was great.
JK: When I first heard that Stratford had won the Olympics, I was pretty happy.
You both grew up in East London – what did you think when you heard that the Olympics were coming to your ends? Realit圜heck linked vocalists John Kata and Louis Gino to dig a little deeper. One of the standout tracks, ‘Regeneration’, was written about the 2012 London Olympics – not your typical subject matter for a hardcore tune.
Proven’s demo, Benediction caught a lot of people by surprise last year - their subsequent live shows rammed home that this was a serious new UKHC outfit.
